Continuing my research on the #BristolSessions , the start of recorded #CountryMusic , Mr A P Carter of the Carter Family.

Before he drove June Carter and his wife, Sarah, to be recorded, "he was a travelling salesman, and was tramping around southwestern #Virginia selling fruit trees."

Read about his life on his #WikiTree profile that was written by a fellow #Appalachia Project member:

My 2024 #Genealogy #Goals is to work on #Appalachian #Notables from the #BristolSessions, considered to be the first recordings of modern #CountryMusic, on #WikiTree.

Mother Maybelle of the Carter Family.

She's primarily remembered for her mastery of the autoharp. Her innovative fingerpicking techniques & ability to create complex melodies on the instrument helped popularize it in country music.

First up is Clyde Meadows of the West Virginia Coon Hunters. I met his son last October & was fascinated to hear his stories & personal journey to Bristol.
