My goodness #threads is filled with #Brexiteers still chomping at the bit to please their #oligarch daddies. What a bunch of saplings.
Mastodon is a haven in comparison. But let us test the assumption:
*clears throat*
#Brexit was solely for the purpose of letting #British #elites do a bit of money laundering, insider trading and taking bribes from #Russian and #Saudi elites at the expense of British economy, stability and democracy.
@ReggieHere That's probably the right attitude.
I think it was in 2017/18 that I finally concluded that England's #Brexiteers & #Remainers were both irretrievably bonkers tribes in a shitshow that had never shedded imperual delusion.
England's 21st century will be like Argentina's 20th. Steep economic decline, while a succession of absurdly venal and cruel regimes outdo each others' incompetence and madness.
But sadly, without proper Latin-American-dictator shades & hats.
That allowed #Brexiteers to legitimately sell Brexit as the only chance to halt or reverse #EUfederalism. Instead of #Brexit being sold on its (dubious) merits, they were free to approach the 2016 referendum as the only democratic chance to even apply the brakes. That political gift to #Farage was created by the British #Europhiles.
It's probable that if e.g. #Maastricht had been rejected, the UK would still be in the #EU.

THREAD: @ChrisMayLA6 rightly questions UK #LabourParty's "mistaken expectation of continued entitlement" wrt the #EU.🇪🇺
From my Irish perspective, that #entitlement is in most of the UK's 🇬🇧 pro-Europeans as strikingly as the #Brexiteers' mendacity. Domestically, their entitlement imposed #EUenlargement & centralisation through 6 major steps without referendum to ensure public buy-in. No public campaign to win their argument, allowing #eurosceptics to build unchallenged. #democraticDeficit
