This xkcd couldn't come at better time!

Two days ago I tried to explain to 83 yo guy that had a dream to open a #brewery and bought 100l setup that it is absolutely uneconomical to run it.

After like 2 years when he tried to brew there with guy who didn't knew anything about it he got at least good idea to pick some students from food tech program that knew about it more. But when we will ask for the money for work he won't be probably so keen on that - I just estimated it to be ~200€. If he had 10x the size of the setup I would ask the same amount of the money so this is bit more of the economy of scale, just his thinking is similar to this xkcd.

But maybe he wants to maje his dream come true no matter the cost

Too-fine grinds turn coffee bitter. They increase surface area dramatically, causing over-extraction even with proper brew times. Match your grind to your brewing method. Grind check! What's your brewing method? Drop it below and we'll tell you the right grind size! #coffee #grind #brewing
100 years of pilsner: Lethbridge celebrates Sick brewing history
One hundred years ago the first batch of Old Style Pilsner was brewed in Lethbridge. Now, more than 35 years since the brewery that made it was closed and demolished, some people in the southern Alberta city are trying to keep the heritage alive.

It’s not your beans.

It’s your grind.

Too fine → over-extracted, bitter
Too coarse → weak, hollow

You all have that one flimsy card board box labeled with sharpy, in which you keep all your #brewing equipment too small for a dedicated box, don't you? #homebrewing #beersofmastodon

@rjohnston maybe $200 in propane and lots of my free labour. Costco is selling 1L bottles for $14.99, so I'm well under that...if I ignore the labour.

As far as hobbies go for valuable products, it's a lot better than #fishing or #gardening, but not as good as moose #hunting or #brewing cider
