A day out on Bressay - small island next to Lerwick. Lovely to see somewhere different.

Spent the day taking a break from unpacking boxes and got my first bit of knitting done since we moved to #Shetland. Also caught up with the new series of All Creatures Great and Small and feeling very cosy! #knitting #islandliving #Bressay

A frequent visitor to #Lerwick harbour the Statsraad Lehmkuhl obscures a much larger, and more modern, cruise ship out in Bressay sound. The Bressay ferry can also be seen heading over on the far left near a tender heading round to the larger vessel.

For our final day, we took another boat to see the bird colonies on the cliffs of #Bressay & Noss - got to see the gannets up close in their nests and diving off shore. They flew alongside the boat, just metres away from us 🤩

Then it was down to Sumburgh - and the "worst" weather of our visit: a sea mist came in, entirely localised on the lighthouse - which made it especially magical.

(Pics: gannets flying close to the boat; the sea at Noss; the cloud inversion & misty coast at Sumburgh.)

After the big gales of Wednesday it’s much calmer in Shetland. There has been no boat from south for 3 days and it’s not likely to sail tonight either. So, the supermarkets have very little in the way of fresh food, but I suspect we’ll cope - thank goodness for freezers!
