I do business with a local-enough butcher. They sell good stuff at decent prices (except the crocodile, woof! that's expensive! but all else is getting what you pay for). I'm by no means a huge customer, but a consistent one, ordering every week or three. Recently I got a note to the effect of "you haven't filled in your birthday on your profile", and, having been up to my eyeballs in GDPR stuff lately and not having the best time of it, it made me react with somewhat pointed curiosity.
What happened next made my day. I got a note back from a real human, saying, no, we'd never share that with anyone, we just want to give you a small birthday present, _and_ we understand that that's sensitive, and it's perfectly okay if you don't fill it in, and she'll make sure appropriate folks know about it.
Wow. Exactly right, and completely unexpected.
Now, I'm a big fan of name-and-shame on people who do bad things... I would be remiss if I didn't share about people doing it right, too.
So: If you live in the Netherlands or Dutch-speaking Belgium, and want a good delivery-butcher, I can heartily recommend LeJean, https://www.lejean.nl ... they deliver frozen via Trunkrs, order in by 1030, there the same evening, or, if you're in range of Leidschendam, you can go pick it up.
(And if there's a good hashtag for Folks Doing It Right? I'd love to know, because these people deserve one.)
