Who knows why the book was chosen?
Not I.
But #GoodMorningMidnight immediately after #BoySwallowsUniverse is ... a jarring experience.
Gone is the criminally violent melodrama. And positivity.
In is something that each member of the venerable club has lived beside. Or lived out. For decades.

They've done hrs listening to the #Audiobook and watching/listening to reviews, interviews & discussions.
And we've made up and sung songs about the plot and relationships between characters.
But #Recall level is still pretty low.
So now they're trying watching the Netflix series based on the book.
Opening scenes were thug-life violence. Neither of us were keen to continue.
But they did.
Reading around #BoySwallowsUniverse.
Today the story seems to be about an optimist living in a #BlueBeard story variant.
Forbidden actions, curiosity, punishment, vengance, justice.
Still puzzled by the (so far) absence of corrupt #QueenslandCops in this story. How could heroin be sold without them?
EDIT 2 days later: The corrupt cops have emerged.

Have loaded about 15 hours of interviews, reviews & background video and audio files on and around the novel #BoySwallowsUniverse onto a USB thumbdrive.
And that is playing on a (older) smart TV as an single-topic, artificial TV channel.
And the intersection between #Literature and #ProductPromotion is getting emphasised again.
(I already knew that #CharlesDickens' works were thoroughly commercialised.)

The #Audiobook performer is pretty much perfect. #StigWemyss is not raising even yellow flags based on what I know of teenagers in #Brisbane's junkie-criminal culture. (Not firmly based, past hearing two fellow Brisbane train passengers discussing how best to drink metho, & media coverage of violence.)

"Boy Swallows Universe" is a series adaptation of a book telling a story of growing up in 1980s Australia. There's a fair dose of magical realism, but in the right amounts, so the whole thing doesn't venture into gibberish. It's actually quite brutal as for a story of a child. A solid thing with an unexpected performance from Simon "The Mentalist" Baker, whom I didn't recognise at first. I am also a taste for Australia as a setting place for stories.
