It wasn't in the plan, but I was at the trailhead, so I took off on a short hike and kept on going on a longer and longer hike with an excellent peak bagged before turning back.

Boundary Trail and Big Butte

Six Rivers National Forest. Started on a short plan and it kept on growing until I got all the way to Big Butte via Little Butte and a mystery trail.

Siskyou Wilderness, Del Norte county, considered one of the most remote areas of California. Flat iron lake has zillions of orange bellied newts. The campsite has a great view if your backpacking. Very few airplanes fly overhead, there are no roads, it is blessedly quiet. There are bizarre swampy fields, of the rare carniverous plant darlingtonia, further up the trail in elk hole. Trails are rugged, and not always well maintained, but well worth exploring. Lots of bigfoot sightings
