Another #Anniversary today 😄

The #BostonTeaParty | December 16, 1773

In #BostonHarbor , a group of #Massachusetts colonists disguised as #MohawkIndians board three tea ships and dump 342 chests of tea into the harbor.

… was in protest of the #British Parliament’s #TeaAct of 1773, a bill designed to save the faltering #EastIndiaCompany by greatly lowering its tea tax and granting it a virtual monopoly on the American tea trade.

HISTORY
The #BostonTeaParty was on #ThisDayInHistory in 1773. Colonists dressed as #Mohawk Indians (pretty racist, no?) and dumped #EastIndiaCompany tea into the harbour because the Tea Act made it cheaper than what colonists smuggled in. Conservatives, of course, hate #PropertyDamage...

Not only is it a tax, it is taxation without representation.

#Tariffs #BostonTeaParty

The Boston Tea Party was about one person having unilateral power to impose tariffs (duties). The US was formed out of an opposition to this power and the US Constitution has specific language about it. It'd be quite a thing if the US Supreme Court undoes this founding principle. You might call that counterrevolutionary.

TRUMP’S ILLEGAL USE OF FUNDS IS SAME AS FOUNDING PRINCIPLE THAT SPARKED THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION AND BOSTON TEA PARTY. NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION

Today in History: July 24, 1773 – Foreshadowing the Boston Tea Party in the Passage of the Tea Act of 1773

The Tea Act didn’t raise taxes—it raised hackles.

Britain wanted control. The colonies wanted fire.

Next stop: revolution. 🫖🔥
