after the demotion of #Patrushev to "presidential aid for shipbuilding", and the removal of #Shoigu from minister of defense, #Bortnikov is the second most powerful person in #russia after #putin .

now putin removes #Gerasimov, and gives him control over a section of the army in addition to the security service #FSB.

I see this as very dangerous for putin, if #Bortnikov starts to think that in the future he may be purged by putin.

FSB head #Bortnikov will lead the #Kursk 'counter-terrorist operation' instead of #Gerasimov. Makes sense given the (mis)labelling of the incursion as terrorism but also a clear sign Gerasimov is no longer trusted.
