Start of a long thread on megaliths for #StandingStoneSunday, following our summer holiday adventures in Brittany 🇫🇷 & Cornwall 🇬🇧. Starting with an alignment in Erdeven.
If you like standing stones, I have previous 🧵on Neolithic & Bronze Age sites in Sardinia, from the past two years when I was a visiting prof there (geography not archeology!). I have a long-standing interest in how humans inhabit landscape so I love old & new standing stones, dragging the family along. #Bornées #geography

Sometimes, traces of the past haunt our landscapes discreetly. An incongruously thick wall across a wooded valley. Border infrastructures left over from war and conflict, easy to miss from a train window. This was once the #GothicLine, a place of fierce battles in Northern Tuscany, during WW2. There are many more, more photographed places along this line, like the superb Ponte della Maddalena. But I search out the ghosts, the lines, the stones. #Bornées #AlongTheLine #slowTravel #Trains

The trouble when you write a book that’s something like a fieldwork-based graphic essay, is that booksellers don’t always know where to put it. So I was thrilled to find “Bornées” in the comics section of a big bookshop today, where — in my mind — it belongs. (Total ego trip, I know, shameful etc etc but hey!)

From photo to comic, one line at a time. It's fun to return slowly to each page, now that the book is finished and soon heading off to press, out on 15th november 2024. I will soon share the cover design, currently being magic-ed up by the graphic designer based on some of my drawings.
