Mésange à tête brune

Discrète habitante des forêts boréales, cette mésange se reconnaît à sa calotte brun chocolat et à sa gorge sombre contrastant avec ses joues pâles. Elle fréquente les conifères moussus, où elle cache des graines pour l’hiver.

A friend sent me a photo of a #bird in #BritishColumbia that she couldn't identify. It was a #BorealChickadee like this adorable, fluffy little sprite photographed by Alan Burger via #inaturalist.

This led me to look up the last time *I* had seen a Boreal Chickadee. The answer is that the first and last times were the same day. I've only seen this species once: July 3, 2002 on #OldSpeck mountain in #Maine. I was #birding with my friend Randy "The Ran-Man" Harrison and we found three of them.
