Old church ruins on a #SilentSunday

Ruins of the church on the Borberg.
It is located on a 600 metre high mountain plateau in the middle of a much older Saxon rampart complex.
The first construction phase dates back to the 10th century.
It was one of the first churches in my homeland.
I live below the Borberg and can reach this place in about 30 minutes on foot.
In my spare time, I give talks about the church and the ramparts and explain their history: https://www.derborberg.de/mythen-sagen-forschung/

Iron ore from the “Briloner Eisenberg” was smelted at the Olsberger HĂŒtte as early as the 15th century.

At this time, the original parish, the church and the monastery on the Borberg no longer had any sacred significance.

The western slope of the Borberg has been destroyed by the effects of climate change.
The spruce monocultures have died and could only be removed.

The Gierskopp from the air

The Gierskopp is a very old place, associated at the latest with the early medieval curtis on the Borberg.

The “Schultenhof” farm belonged to the original Saxon rampart complex and later Frankish or Carolingian curtis on the Borberg plateau.
