Dog Person by Camille Pagan
Amelia May and Miguel have a dream to open a bookshop. Seeing the dream come true isn’t enough when Miguel loses Amelia to a heart condition.
The story starts with Harold, Amelia’s rescue Brittany Spaniel. Harold loved Amelia more than anyone else in the world. When she died, he promised that he would help Miguel to find someone else to love because Amelia knew that would be best for Miguel.
To make matters worse, Harold is not a young dog. He is toward the end of his life and he knows it. His joints hurt a little more than they used to and he sometimes struggles to breathe when he’s overdone it too much.
Even though, Harold is a happy dog. People say it looks like he’s smiling. He thinks that should be obvious. He does smile.
Miguel’s grief causes him to neglect the bookshop, and he doesn’t realize it until it is almost too late.
Miguel schedules his own personal favorite author to come to the bookshop for an event. He isn’t sure it will save the shop but he knows it will help.
When the author is a no show, Miguel’s grief goes deeper. His friends have a plan and Harold is all in.
Can Harold help Miguel find true love and can they save the shop too?
Keep a tissue close while reading this one. There are plenty of moments that will make you laugh but there are some places that may touch your heart.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves books about books, or books with pets in them. It isn’t your normal romance, I felt like it has a little more. This is a book you will remember for a while after you read it. It might also be one I might want to read again.
