Not sure what the fuck happen, but somehow suddenly #BookLore has disappeared from the face of the earth.

I really think I am cursed or something, everytime I find something cool or amazing, it just dies or vanishes.

At least, as long as I have the Docker image, that wont go anywhere haha!

#Booklore appears to have imploded. The main site doesn't load, the Github repo is deleted or private and the Docker image is gone.

If anyone has #SelfHosted #Booklore (ebook manager) on their #homeserver be aware that it has imploded after much Reddit #drama - which I'll let you seek out if you like that sort of thing. As an #OpenSource project it has at least been forked with https://github.com/grimmory-tools/grimmory looking like the most likely successor.

This evening an announcement post was made on the #booklore discord, before it could even be read the announcement channel was deleted. Then whilst trying to read to the bottom of the support channel to see what was going on, the whole discord was deleted. Then the github repository was deleted!

This is a project used by 1000s of people, and we are all suddenly left in the wilderness.

I know the owner had had a bad patch, but he'd handed it off to a new maintainer. To suddenly have everything deleted feels extremely weird. Here's hoping something comes back.

Probably affects #bookstodon and definitely #books

Looks like I picked the wrong week to try out #Booklore

I recently moved over to #Booklore for my book library and love its excellent Kobo sync, but watching its development I have a newfound understanding of the abuse open source maintainers have to put up with. How some people can act so entitled over a piece of free software is beyond me. #reading #OpenSource
I did not know about the situation regarding #Booklore and oh boy what a read that was.

Situations like these only reinforce my scepticism regarding immature and (especially) AI-assisted self-hosted projects. After all, my family and friends who use my services do not care about drama happening behind the scenes. They need a viable alternative to
#BigTech, and uncertainty is the opposite of "viable".
