The “GOAT” Wouldn’t Make This Song Bruh

I recently floated out the idea of curating a playlist of the worst songs I could find from rappers who would generally be considered some of the greatest of all time. I wasn’t sure if I actually wanted to do it at first, but the idea got a lot of attention and support. People were asking me to post it on Twitter when I was done putting it together. Certain artists such as 2Pac or Lupe have songs that I dislike, but none that I felt were excessively unlistenable enough to qualify for this playlist. Honestly, as much as I dislike Drake, I really struggled to find a song from him that felt bad enough for this playlist as well. He has a lot of songs I dislike, a lot of songs I’d even say I hate, but I couldn’t really find any that were like completely unlistenable. Second album from KRS-One under the Boogie Down Productions moniker, after the 1987 killing of Scott La Rock. Arguably the birth of socially conscious hip-hop, undeniably a key album in it.

Did not know in listening to this back in ’88 that all these years later I’d be vegan and KRS-One would be 60 years old.

My copy is the 2024 Vinyl Me, Please reissue on 180g orange vinyl, with listening notes by Elijah Watson. Sounds great and has solid packaging – I hope VMP’s return under new ownership can keep the quality high.
