It may have taken two centuries but I think I’m finally over the band Death Cab for Cutie not being a Bonzo Dog Do Dah Band tribute act.

So here comes the twist. »Urban Spaceman« by The Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band.
Quite ok VH-1 video source

… okish slowed down to match the different (correct!) pitch/length and dubbed with the superior audio quality 2017 Remaster.

Today’s listening is ‘The Doughnut In Granny’s Greenhouse’, the 1968 album by The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.
My copy comes with the original booklet!
Alternately titled ‘Son Of Gorilla’ (according to the booklet), the second album from the Bonzos is an eccentric delight!
Pop smarts from Mr Innes (such as ‘Beautiful Zelda’) and madness from Mr Stanshall (such as ‘My Pink Half Of The Drainpipe’).
A personal fave track is 'Trouser Press'.
“You’re so savage, Roger”.
With a geranium behind each ear and his face painted with gay Kabbalistic symbols, 6-foot-8 seventeen-stone police sergeant Geoff Bull looked jolly convincing as he sweated and grunted through a vigorous twist routine at the Frug-a-Go-Go Bierkeller.
Today’s listening is ‘Gorilla’, the 1967 album by The Bonzo Dog Doo/Dah Band.
On this, their first album, some songs sound like Beatles pastiches, such as ‘Piggy Bank Love’, whilst other songs could be on a future Monty Python record, such as ‘I’m Bored’.
Oddly ‘I’m Bored’ makes reference to ‘Mother Nature and her Son’, which seems close to ‘Mother Nature’s Son’, a song yet to appear on The Beatles ‘white album’ in 1968!
Was this where Paul got the idea?
I’ve been getting into this, going into the recesses of the Bonzo Dog Band, so that I can justify the massive box set that’s due in 2024.
Anyways, Tent sounds like the prototype for the debut Roxy Music album.

Wonderful to hear Brainiac on banjo,
We welcome Val Doonican as himself (Hullo there)
Very appealing, Max Jaffa.... Mmm, that's nice, Max!
What a team, Zebra Kid and Horace Batchelor on percussion,
And a great favourite, and a wonderful performer, of all of us here, J. Arthur Rank on gong....
Postman caught us just before we went out for the day, so I've not had time to give these latest arrivals a spin: the Cliff Edwards LP has a few tracks I'm otherwise missing; although I have all of the Bonzo Dog Band songs (several times over) I don't have anything by The Alberts, so very much looking forward to hearing that.

From the eccentric mind of Viv Stanshall, visually annotated for your pleasure. And yes, that actually is Eric Clapton on the Ukulele🌟
