Built in 1779 by French prisoners of war, this grim fortress once housed the worst of Cornwall’s criminals — and many never left. From overcrowded cells and chilling executions behind closed doors, to the original Long Drop pit still visible today… the atmosphere is thick with echoes of the past.
The haunting history doesn’t stop there. There are public hangings, the last execution in Cornwall, and tales of restless spirits still roaming the halls. Even the old nightclub that once filled these walls couldn’t shake the darkness buried deep in the stone.
Now beautifully restored, the jail blends cutting-edge tech with its eerie past — but trust me, the ghosts haven’t gone anywhere…
