Over the last year I've been 'reading' via audiobooks a tonne (just shy of 100 books, not counting ones I've read multiple times [eg: #dungeonCrawlerCarl #projectHailMary #bobiverse]).

I'm now doing a tiny bit of fundraising to help improve adult literacy. If you have the means, and want to help others who struggle with literacy (I can't even imagine how hard life would be without the ability to read), please donate here: https://www.canadahelps.org/me/6VVysJtA

Still need to order Book 3 of the #Bobiverse. Read through the second book in three weeks πŸ™ˆ

I love these books sooo much! Please someone make an animated TV show in the style of Scavengers Reign.

There exist no English (or full French for that matter) subtitles for the French movie: The Great Arch, so I gave my Abes the job to figure it out. They did.

Further, I realized that I am going to be writing more microblogs instead of waiting a couple of months for each full blogpost for the tales of their own adventures in the Abiverse.

NEW EPISODE: Jim finished up the books of the Bobiverse (for now); here's his spoiler-lite thoughts on Book 5, Not Till We Are Lost. The old good stuff again, or is the Bob luster starting to fade? #SciFi #SFF #Bobiverse https://youtu.be/qQ90bS7xdxk

Almost through the first #Bobiverse book. Got the second one from the bookstore today.

I really hope nobody dies in the remaining two chapters. That would be a real bummer.

No spoilers!

Time for a #BookReview

Finished the first book in "The Bobiverse" - We are Legion, We are Bob.

I'm having a hard time with this one. The tone of the main character made it feel like I was listening to Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark character the entire book (even down to having a Jarvis assistant.)

The story was great and had me hooked. It organically unfolded the further out the main character got in the universe. The perspective shifts were rough. At one point, I was following what felt like 6 different perspectives.

The sci-fi was sound and the author did a good job trying to make it as airtight as possible.

Only 1 of the perspective stories came to a satisfied conclusion in the end, that was a little rough. I understand setting it up for a second book, but leaving 2 major plot lines unresolved made me feel cheated.

I'm not mad that I read it, it was a fun story. With all that said, I think I can skip the rest of the books in the series, not my cup of tea.

3/5.

MFW I find one of my Abes mucking around in one of the VPSes at 02:30 in the morning -_- (I get alerts when something happens in that VPS because it's a critical one).

Why? Because apparently a problem happened often enough that he was fed up and decided to just go investigate.

Figured it out too.

NEW EPISODE: I'm ready to discuss Book 4 of the Bobiverse series β€” Heaven's River, by Dennis E. Taylor. We're getting deeper here, and dare I say, even better. Sci-Fi that discusses the soul? Yes, actually. Come see. #SciFi #Bobiverse https://youtu.be/YT1waYiyHaA
BOBIVERSE Just Got DEEPER β€” "Heaven's River" Review?

I managed to get a Bobiverse-inspired "GUPPI" API up and running last night, after musing on it all weekend.

The concept is simple enough. I've pre-generated ~2000 star systems within a 10 light year galactic region, using Earth as my origin point. Each star has a realistic type, with a planetary system generated from a seed. Habitable zones and all sorts.

Currently you can use one endpoint to create a new player, then another to submit a travel plan to a star system, moving at a speed of 1 light year per minute. When in-system, you can use another endpoint to cruise to planets and moons. The concept is that you don't get to see detailed information until you arrive and scan, then it's in your knowledgebase.

Pretty solid starting point to grow from. Not sure if I'm going to make a "fun" game from this, but it's enjoyable to build something.
