I couldn't show this for #WIPWednesday when I was working on it, because it's our #lace competition and the creator is supposed to be hidden until after voting. But now I can reveal "Le Tricolore", which just won me $20 at our retreat.

Original inspiration was a real balloon that was used to escape the Siege of Paris in 1870.

The competition theme was "Red White & Blue" but did not require it to be American themed.

Oh, I forgot to post the Plimoth Jacket.

My first lace instructor (and now friend) worked on the lace for this, as did many of the lacemakers that I know.'

My lacemaker friends worked with her on that Plimoth Jacket she refers to. I'll post that video next so you can see it.

#Caturday #BobbinLace

A couple of weeks ago I got the chance to join Lauran Sundin's wire metal bobbin lace workshop. It was amazing and I learned so much. Lauran was a great teacher who had really thought through the structure of the course and teaching methods. For example she took 400% increased copies of our excercise pieces so that we could really see the details and what we should look at in the structure of the lace.

It was so inspiring even though we went through really basic stuff. Or perhaps it was inspiring just because of that because it left freedom to think how this knowledge could be used. I haven't designed lace before but after this course I got an idea for earrings and that even work out as a finished piece. Of course it's super simple but still I'm happy how they turned out.

We even had a change to see and handle Lauran's incredible jewelry but instead of giving not so good quality pics of those I encourage you to check out her website https://lauransundin.com/

~

Joitain viikkoja sitten osallistuin Lauran Sundinin metallilankanypläyksen kurssille.
