I rated this one a 9/10. It was a fast watch for me because there were genuinely likeable characters, not completely good or bad, that learned and grew and overcame various challenges that were interesting.
They threw in a few quick, morally facile side storylines every once in a while (that Jiang marriage?) and a little too blatant on the CCP's Best Happiest Society framing and pairing couples off, which brought it down from a higher score.
Overall? Very good.

Also, Hua Zhi is a million times more bad ass than I will ever be. Walking in to that room, having Yanxi lock the door and threaten her, and she fuckin' threatens him back WITH THE WEAPON HE GAVE HER AND TRAINED HER ON and calls his bluff. Holy fuck, that young lady has ovaries of steel.
The chance of these letters between the Empress Dowager and Grandma Hua being lesbian love letters is low, but I really really WANT them to be lesbian love letters. Two old ladies rekindling a childhood love now that their mens are gone.
Totally not sus at all. Totally something a normal guy born into a normal family would say, and not anyone who just left dinner with his uncle the emperor.

Hu Yitian is a very tall Batman with his broad shoulder pads and dark color scheme.
I really liked Zhang Jingyi in #LighterAndPrincess and her character in this is good, too.
Finished #BlossomsInAdversity. Loved it. Would have loved 15 more minutes of the ending and watching people react to the big reveals (hi! the random beggar your family took in is now emperor!), but very good all around. Very cathartic.
