๐—ž๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐˜๐˜€ โ€” Lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system (lymph nodes, spleen, thymus and bone marrow). There are two main types, Hodgkin and nonโ€‘Hodgkin (nonโ€‘Hodgkin is more common in India). Typical signs include painless swollen lymph nodes (neck, armpit, groin), unexplained fever or recurrent fevers, night sweats, persistent fatigue, unintentional weight loss, itching, and breathlessness or cough; these symptoms can mimic common infections, so persistent or unexplained signs should prompt medical evaluation because early detection improves treatment options and outcomes.

1. Talk honestly with your doctor and family about symptoms and fears.
2. Get evaluated for persistent symptoms โ€” donโ€™t ignore painless lumps or unexplained fevers.
3. Share reliable info and support patient groups.

Blood cancers โ€” leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma โ€” begin in the bone marrow or lymphatic system and often present with common symptoms: persistent unexplained fatigue, recurrent infections, easy bruising or bleeding, painless swollen lymph nodes in the neck/armpit/groin, bone or joint pain, heavy night sweats, unexplained weight loss, and shortness of breath from anaemia. Risk factors include increasing age, family history, prior high-dose radiation or chemical exposure (for example benzene), weakened immunity and certain genetic conditions (eg. Down syndrome). If you notice one or more of these symptoms for several weeks, get a clinical exam and a full blood count (CBC); early referral to a haematologist and prompt diagnostic tests (blood smear, bone marrow biopsy, imaging, immunophenotyping) can dramatically improve treatment options and survival.

You can help by sharing accurate information, supporting patient groups and donating blood or registering as a stem-cell/bone-marrow donor if eligible. Treatment advances โ€” targeted therapies, immunotherapies, and bone marrow transplants โ€” have improved survival rates for many blood cancers, but access and early diagnosis remain critical, especially in regions with limited resources. Use this month to check symptoms, encourage screening, attend awareness events, and support research and care in your community.

This is #bloodcancerawareness month and I'm grateful for the Lymphoma Research Foundation because without its efforts, & resulting treatments- I likely wouldn't be here today

I lost a beloved chosen younger sister to a rare and deadly lymphoma the year before I was diagnosed with a rarer one. We took some of the same medications and I know that LRF and the treatments they helped develop extended her life and gave our family extra time together.

Blood Cancer Awareness Month: A Call to Action for Ghana

This September, we focus on raising awareness about blood cancer in Ghana, where childhood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma are prevalent. Despite 80% of these cancers being curable, only 20โ€“30% of children receive treatment due to financial constraints. Letโ€™s unite to advocate for better resources and support for those affected.
