Testing an idea: under-shade of dark green Speed Paint over the black primer. I'm not sure I see much once the reds are applied. The shadows look very similar to the one I tried with a red under-coat. I guess that means I can't go too wrong.

I was able to get him to this state in just an hour of brush time. Not quite finished (and I absent mindedly gave him Sargent colors) but dangerously close. 18 Marines to this standard feels feasible.

Another aspect of #11thEdition prep. I printed these stencil templates to mark the new terrain boundaries. With just a bit of primer and paint they should walk the line between being noticable for reference and blending into the background enough to not be distracting.

Literacy is overrated

Blood Angels Troop-Test number two.

Building from a black primer to get darker shadows without extra steps. I like the contrast and the grittier, dirty, look the stippling creates. I'll definitely add the squad markings for an extra splash of color and interest.

The Army Painter colors tend more towards pink and matte than I want ideally. Maybe a wash can settle it towards an better balance.

Excited for the new box set this summer, so I grabbed a Blood Angel off the shelf to test speed paint technique for the troops.

If I get a good routine in place for the Intercessors, Vanguard, and Eradicators, then I can put focused effort into the four characters.

This state took about an hour, starting from primed and quickly covered in dark red Speed Paint.
