The Power of a Pause for Emotional Clarity

Introduction

There was a time—not too long ago—when frustration would crawl under my skin and detonate like a live wire. Someone would say the wrong thing, do something inconsiderate, or simply catch me in a moment when I hadn’t eaten, and boom—I’d explode.

But recently, I’ve been learning something my younger self never knew was possible: the magic of a pause.

The Personal Shift

This isn’t about being passive or swallowing injustice. This is emotional alchemy—taking the heat of a reaction and turning it into clarity, calm, and compassion.

Before, I used to get heated and blow up. Now, I notice how much better it is for me—and everyone around me—when I take a moment to breathe, reflect, and check myself before I wreck everything. This pause has helped me become a better human, maintain healthier relationships, and understand myself on a deeper level.

Marisol’s Journey in The Ordinary Bruja

Marisol’s story in The Ordinary Bruja reflects this growth. Her journey into self-awareness and ancestral magic begins not with fire—but with stillness. She has to face herself. Her fears. Her guilt. Her doubt. And she doesn’t power through by force. She pauses. She listens. She learns.

Before Marisol can reclaim her power, she must sit in her discomfort and choose to respond rather than react. That moment of pause becomes her turning point—and her strength.

A Challenge for You

Next time you feel that emotional rise—that tension behind your eyes, that tightness in your chest—don’t rush past it.

Pause.

Breathe.

Let the feeling speak, but don’t let it control the room.

That pause might just be the difference between burning a bridge and building one.

Closing Thoughts

This Monday, I’m not selling you perfection. I’m sharing a practice. One that’s changed my life, and maybe, will shift yours too.

You don’t have to be fearless. You don’t have to be unbothered.

You just have to pause long enough to choose who you really want to be.

Because that? That’s magic.

Quick thoughts on stuff I'm playing with

Hope is a choice, an act of courage, and a commitment to creating change. In the first post of the blog series “Hope is a Moral Obligation,” I explore hope as more than just an emotional comfort.

Hope is More Than a Feeling

Hope acknowledges that success is not guaranteed, yet insists that effort and resilience are meaningful in themselves. In this view, hope becomes an act of courage, requiring a willingness to embra…

Reposting: Hope is more than a feeling. It is a call to action. In uncertain times, it can guide us to protect what we value, stand against injustice, and imagine new possibilities.

In my latest blog series, Hope is a Moral Obligation, I explore how we can foster hope within ourselves and our communities, drawing inspiration from thought leaders like Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Paulo Freire. Each post invites reflection and action, offering practical steps to weave hope into our daily lives.

In a world that often values productivity over well-being, it’s crucial to remember the importance of play. This blog post explores the concept of “Homo ludens” and how integrating play into our daily lives can lead to a more joyful, creative, and fulfilling existence.

Why is this shift important? Moving away from passive consumerism and towards valuing experiences can enrich our lives, strengthen our communities, and enhance our emotional well-being.
