Yesterday, I started Scenario #1 for Kernstown by Revolution Games. The #Blindswords chit-pull system is excellent for portraying the difficulty of command and control in this era.
The setup makes it seem like Tyler's brigade will walk over the single CSA unit at the stone wall. But no. The chit pulls in the first two turns decreed that Tyler's brigade would wander around in the woods aimlessly, confused. Rather maddening for the Union player, but hilariously plausbile in retrospect.
Blind Swords is one of my favorite systems. I will have to pick up more from this series. #HexesForever
Yesterday, I played the short scenario from Stonewall's Sword, which was designed by Hermann Luttmann and published by Revolution Games. It's the first game in the Blind Swords series.
The VP objectives spur players to reproduce the historical flow of the Cedar Mountain battle. The Union's early, foolhardy advance was later countered and overwhelmed by rebel reinforcements, leading to a narrow Union defeat.
The chit system is as good and entertaining as people told me. The event chits are plentiful, colorful, and give the players interesting ways to goose the activations. Splitting combat onto different "Fire" and "Close" cohesion tables adds both flavor and historical verisimilitude.
I'm glad I took the plunge! #hexesforever #revolutiongames #blindswords
