Romance isn't dead. A new paper argues that a species of wood-eating cockroaches (_Salganea taiwanensis_) pair-bond by eating each other's wings. Then they defend their nest and care for their children all their lives.

Exclusive aggression against intruders in cockroach mating pairs following mutual wing-eating

Abstract. Pair bonding is often described as a selective association between two conspecific adults that involves the exclusion of rivals. While extensivel

Some termites, genus Hospitalitermes, spotted moving objects along a tree branch at MacRitchie Reservoir Park, Singapore on 2 Feb 2025. There were, of course, a lot more termites moving about.

These termites are quite common in nature areas.

A Giant Cockroach, Pseudophoraspis nebulosa, spotted at Upper Seletar Reservoir Park, Singapore on 24 Dec 2023. It has a lovely patterning on its back. The second shot shows a close-up of the partially transparent shell over its head.

This is a forest cockroach and, I believe, never found in houses.

Haven't even gotten around to IDing stuff yet, too tired to hashtag assiduously, but here's just a few finds!

- this gorgeous damselfly, I just went real slow to get close enough with the macro lens
- lots of these cockroaches, native _Parcoblatta_ I think
- an extremely pregegnant ant-mimic jumping spider, _Synemosyne_ I think
- lots of huuuge isopods!
