A female of the #cockroach species #Blaptica #dubia (#Blaberidae, Blattodea), which is widespread in Argentina and Uruguay. It is a #macro #portrait of a living individual, which I took in 2020, primarily for aesthetic reasons.
#Biology aspects: sexual dimorphism: males have complete wings, females only have rudimentary wing systems. The phenomenon of "wingless" adult forms is called #brachyptery.

Yesterday's meeting of my orchid society was especially good and not just because one of my plants won a ribbon (see previous post) and we discussed the upcoming show. I got a #Dracunculus vulgaris and a #Pinguicula esseriana from one of my main plant swapping buddies; I got a starter colony of #Blaptica #dubia #roaches from another member; I picked up a #Crassula ovata, #Pachyphytum oviferum, and some sort of small #Haworthia from other members; and I sold an old glazed ceramic orchid pot.
My starter colony of #Dubia #roaches (#Blaptica dubia) is finally producing #nymphs.
