Ranked Choice results in tonight. The Democratic Socialists gob smacked the established Dem party. They got 35 of the 48 seats. That's on top of our candidate winning mayoral primary and a progressive to replace Eleanor Holmes Norton. My ward elected a woman labor leader, and Dem Socialist to represent us on the City Council. First time this generation DC voters had an option and we spoke clearly!

Our progressive candidate to replace Eleanor Holmes Norton won outright on Election night. Our progressive candidate for mayor (the Black woman Trump hates) received her opponent's concession today. Have to wait for ranked choice process to see if we were successful in turning out the old Democratic Party Committee. If we all fight...we can win. The message is, get off the couch and go join a movement (not a moment... a movement).

Even if you don't live in DC, pay attention to our primary because Trump uses DC to practice what he is going to do to oppress the states. He announced Thursday he didn't like the candidate that was in the lead for the mayor's race (a Black, progressive woman). He threatened to take over the city if we elect her. That is a threat of voter suppression in its purest form. https://wtop.com/dc/2026/06/i-wouldnt-like-it-trump-threatens-dc-takeover-if-janeese-lewis-george-wins-mayors-race/

‘I wouldn’t like it’: Trump threatens DC takeover if Janeese Lewis George wins mayor’s race

President Donald Trump is warning that the federal government could move to take greater control over D.C. if Janeese Lewis George wins the mayoral race.

#Books #Reading #BlackMastodon #BlackFedi #BlackTwitter The last book was one I mentioned two weeks ago: ALCHEMISED by SenLin Yu. I do not recommend this book to anyone who is a survivor of any kind of violence. It includes very violent images of torture and abuse throughout the entire book. It's a shame really because the story of a society where functions are determined by your alchemy skills could have stood on its own without all of that. 6/6
#Books #Reading #BlackMastodon #BlackFedi #BlackTwitter Of course I love Martha Wells but came to her work late, only after reading the Murderbot Diaries. Witch King and Demon Queen which I read earlier this year made me go back and read her very first two novels which are now out in one volume: The BOOK OF ILE-RIEN. Same country with different characters 100 years apart. Was fun to compare her early writing with what she does now. If you like sorcerers, magic and treason, its a must read. 5/

I am sometimes a fan of Louise Erdrich. Her work runs hot and cold with me. This go round I read THE MIGHTY RED, the story of what happens when the rich kid in town decides to fall in love with a less affluent Native American teen. His family is desperate for her to save him and hers is desperate to get her away from him. Slow in the character development and point of the story, but gets there in the end. 4/
