Blog #50. I'm one year into retirement. I'm getting used to sleeping in. Walking up at 9 or 10 in the morning. Except on Saturdays. Can't miss Bugs Bunny. I'm out running errands on a regular basis. Doing volunteer stuff for the local transit riders union. Finally started physical therapy two weeks ago. It's going well. Hoping I'm able to finally walk without getting dizzy and without using a cane. That was the reason I retired from my job. I'm also the caregiver for my brother. His heart function dropped to 6% in February. His drinking had a lot to do with that. They put him in hospice care and told him he only has months to live. His heart function is now at 20%,and he's up and about. And yelling at the TV during sports. If his heart function improves, things may change for the better. I have my next PT scan in two weeks at the hospital. Hoping the tumor hasn't grown. I've lost 65 lbs since March 2025. I need to lose another 20 lbs before they'll consider surgery to remove the tumor. I do watch the news, but whenever that clown in chief comes on,it's an IMMEDIATE mute or change the channel. Ditto anything about his stupid war. It makes me barf. Anyway,I'm getting used to this thing called retirement.

Today in Labor History April 27, 1882: Jessie Redmon Fauset was born. She was an African-American editor, poet, essayist, novelist, and educator. Her emphasis on portraying an accurate image of African-American life and history inspired literature of the Harlem Renaissance in the 1920s. In her fiction, she created black characters who were working professionals. This was inconceivable to white Americans at the time. Her stories dealt with themes like racial discrimination, "passing", and feminism. From 1919 to 1926, she was literary editor of The Crisis, a NAACP magazine.
