Soo a friend is working with the #Black #Banjo Reclamation project. They tell the story how the banjo came from #africa and was spread in this country. They also talk about how the #african part of the story was erased.
This erasure is happening again with the elimination of #blackfolk working in all manner of professions and fields. #antidei is #antiblack #blackmastodon #dei

Think about it. None of us can have nice things because a few #whitefolks can’t imagine doing well with #brilliant, #beautiful, #innovative, & #creative #blackfolk leading.

Shadow And Act Managing Editor Brooke Obie moderated the MACRO Lodge Bad Hair panel while at Sundance. The panel, featuring director Justin Simien and cast members Ashley Blaine Featherson, Kelly Rowland, Lena Waithe, Yaani King Mondschein, James Van Der Beek and Elle Lorraine, discussed the social and cultural narratives told within what on the surface appears to be a campy story about killer hair. Seeing the news about Queen Latifah started me wondering about other Black queer women in music who did not stay in the national spotlight but are still around.

I thought of Doria Roberts and her song, "Perfect."

I saw some news that she is still thriving + was based in ATL/the South until she + her wife moved to the North to be close to sick family.
