Congratulations to Dr. Kyle Henderson who yesterday defended his thesis on: "Extreme metal enrichment in Middle Devonian black shales of the Richardson Trough, Yukon, Canada: an integrated mineralogical, geochemical, and isotopic study". Kyle used detailed petrography, trace elements, and sulphur isotopes to constrain the origin and enrichment of these elements in the organic sediments of the floor of a restricted basin.

#Pyrite compositions on all scales, down to the atomic, presented today in a talk by Daniel Gregory (#UToronto). He also presented new results on the formation of vanadium-enriched black shales. A figure of some framboidal pyrites (named for their raspberry resemblance) with differing concentrations of trace elements (Cu, Ni, Ar) inside and on the rim of the smallest crystals. #Minerals #McGillUniversity #BlackShale
