In Finnish a black-headed gull is named a laughing gull, which comes from genus name larus ridibundus. Ridibundus means "laughing" (Latin ridere = to laugh). Larus comes from the Greek word laros, which meant a seagull or some other seabird. In English the black-headed gulls genus name is chroicocephalus ridibundus.
