We have Black-capped Night Herons here in BC. Well one anyway. :) but he's shy, and I've never seen all of him - just little bits poking through the leaves. In Kandy, Sri Lanka half the trees around the lake sport one or two, and they were all quite gracious about my taking pictures.

L'observation animale c'est un exercice de patience. Mais c'est aussi une bonne dose de chance. Hier, deux bihoreaux gris ont décidé de se poser plusieurs heures devant l'observatoire que je visite une fois par semaine. L'espèce est plutôt farouche, elle vient très rarement sur cet étang et quand elle vient c'est toujours au loin... De mémoire d'observateurs presents avec moi, c'est la première fois depuis des années que les bihoreaux font ça.
Hier j'ai été chanceux.
