The entire village of #Ballinalee, #CountyLongford, #Ireland, was burnt down on #ThisDayInHistory in 1920, as #CollectivePunishment for an #IRA victory there against the #BlackAndTans on 3 November. Nearly every building was destroyed by #British forces, and the livestock shot.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1920, the #BlackAndTans, a British #police force, indiscriminately looted & burnt the city of #Cork in #Ireland. 300 homes & 40 businesses were destroyed, and dozens more damaged. Britain lied & blamed #IRA until a military inquiry proved they had done it.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1920, UK war criminals the #BlackAndTans rampaged through #Balbriggan, #Ireland, burning 50 homes and businesses, looting and beating residents, and killing two locals. Violence of this sort is a common feature of #colonial #occupation everywhere.

The first contingents of the Black and Tans began arriving in Ireland on 7 January 1920. Alongside the Auxiliaries, the Black and Tans went on to commit many of atrocities and terrorise the civilian population in Ireland.
