In honour of my move to my new instance, here’s my #Introduction :
Hi, I’m Danie, a #Bajan in #Ottawa and an aspiring Communication and Media Studies #academic.
I love all things #crafty and I’m a serial hobby starter (read: #neurodivergent triple threat).
I’m not really a fan of movies but I could binge hours of movie reviews/critique.
While I’m motivated by #intersectionality and anti-bigotry I prioritize #BlackWomen, femmes, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and NBs.

@daniecarter @sqncs @ricardoharvin Yeah there are numerous other apps, it's a bit fragmented - though the interfaces you are using are probably the moat popilar.
If its sorting by number of posts all time, that could explain it. Mastodon.social is a quite old instance, so even if #BlackAcademia has a lot of activity recently, it still may not be approaching the number of posts under other hashtags going back years.
If this is so, Its definitely an interface confusion since next to the hashtag it seems to show RECENT activity rather than total number of posts.
For my previous toot I was looking for appropriate hashtags, #BlackAcademia being one of them. It’s a hashtag I’d seen before, yet neither the search bar nor the suggested in-toot hashtags returned results.
A manual search via the address bar displayed the hashtag, as did the in-app search function on another instance I’m on.
I’ve also noticed that hashtags specific to Black people, regardless of activity, rank low in search. I’m very interested in an explanation as to why.
