The Family of Cardinals and Allies (Cardinalidae) includes Tanagers, Cardinals, Buntings, Grosbeaks, and Dickcissel, all colorful, all limited to the Americas.

Indigo Bunting today - vivid blue (not due to pigment) with a strong bill and lovely song. Their range covers 2/3 of the US in summer, and they overwinter in Central America, Caribbean, Columbia and Venezuela.

Volunteer workday today - removing invasives in record heat. Supposed to hit 35C (95F) today - a record high again.

Update

Brutbeginn

Gestern gab es noch Abstände von 10 Minuten, heute sind die Abstände kürzer in denen die Eier nicht gewärmt werden. Auch der Brutwechsel klappt prima. Nachts brütet jedoch nur Liesl, das ist so üblich bei Wanderfalken.

Wenn alles gut geht wird das 1.Küken um den 22.04. schlüpfen

Zach tut sich mit dem Brüten etwas schwerer, er ist rund ein Drittel kleiner als Liesl.
