The birds have competition in the bird bath 😊 #gardenlife #haven #wildlife #mammals #birdbath
The bird bath I constructed last week is getting popular with the locals. I should set up an outdoor camera to see whether raccoons and such are showing up at night. Anyone have brand recommendations? #GrayCatbird #HouseSparrow #birds #sparrows #catbird #birdbath #water
Gray catbird (Dumetella carolinensis) right after taking a dip in the birdbath I just built. I love this species, especially their habit of following me around as I do yard work, ever hopeful that I'll dig up something good. #GrayCatbird #catbird #mimidae #birds #birdbath
Action shot of the solar-powered fountain in my new bird bath. I'm not sure it's going to generate enough ripple to kill mosquito larvae so I'll likely add Mosquito Dunks every three weeks during the summer. But it makes a pleasing sound and maybe the hummingbirds will fly through it. #birdbath #birds #water #solar #mosquitoes
Today I made a sunken bird bath in my herb garden. Wasn't planned at all and you can probably tell, but it was pure fun. Might stick some aquatic plants into the nooks. #birdbath #birds #garden

American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) in Norman, Oklahoma, United States on February 12, 2025

Some of the camera settings I used to make this photo are at: https://www.rsok.com/~jrm/2025Feb28_birds_and_cats/2025feb12_crow_IMG_2798c.html

The jays have learned how to signal that the birdbath needs water, standing on the concrete pigeon or at the lip and staring expectantly at me. What's funny is how polite they are about it. When they descend into the yard they screech loud enough to wake the dead. And when the chickadees want the feeder refilled, I never hear the end of it.

| still can't tell if this is Jack or Jill. Their spouse was in the silk tree keeping watch.
