Vulture! At the Ledges
#BirdCallOut this morning, just from what the Merlin app could identify:
Tennessee warbler -- sounded just like what I heard yesterday and got a glimpse of
Northern mockingbird
White throated sparrow, which sometimes move through here
Yellow rumped warbler, also likely a migrant
Great crested flycatcher - new to me!
Also seen/heard:
Northern cardinal
Goldfinches
Egrets
Cormorants
Chimney swifts
American robins
By the time I set up my scope, the songbirds had gone quiet or had left!
Hummingbird buzzed past my head!
According to Liz, a Tennessee Warbler was singing outside our window this morning.
One of my favorite moments of the spring - hearing the first Scarlet Tanager. It was up on the ridge and across the ravine. Saw a flash of red before it bolted further away. Now I’ll spend the summer trying to photograph it. 🤭 In the meantime, here’s a recording. You can hear it at the very beginning and very end of the sound file.
The roar you hear in the background is the brook, so turn volume up.
We just got buzzed by five very upset geese, two pairs and one straggler, low enough to hear their feathers rustle.
