« Those of us who have worked toward a more #bioregional order less dependent on global supply chains are validated. This disruption makes a compelling argument for getting off #fossil fuels and becoming more reliant on #local sources of energy and food. But being right doesn’t make it any easier. The best that can be said is that global disruption will push us more in a bioregional direction, but with much pain and death across the world. »

The Iran War's Global Disruption Points to a Bioregional Way of Life

I awoke this morning to pictures of Iran’s South Pars gas field burning, the world’s largest. I know what this means. It makes me almost physically ill, a

The Grace of Import Replacement - Schumacher Center for a New Economics

Jane Jacobs painted an image of regional economies in which myriad small industries produce for regional markets—small industries that depend on local materials, local labor, local capital, local transport systems, and appropriately scaled technology to conduct business. She pictured the fruits of this regional industry spilling over to support a rich cultural life in the city at the hub of the region. This bustling creative energy would then foster new innovation and industry, filling in the “niches” of the economy. Jacobs stands as one of the most visionary economic thinkers of the last part of the twentieth century.

#30daymapchallenge Day 27 "Boundaries": imagining a North America with countries, states, and counties replaced by nested watersheds at multiple scales. I used data from the CEC's North American Environmental Atlas to map the major watersheds of North America using a color palette, text style, and overall aesthetic inspired by 1950s era political maps.

Regenerate Cascadia

There are so many nested and fractal scales of organizing in #bioregional work. Here in #Cascadia, we are thrilled to be part of a much larger movement toward place-based consciousness and #resilience networks.

Check out this article for more detail: https://www.bioregionalearth.org/blog/fractal-consciousness

Bioregional Fractal Consciousness

The concept of fractal scale-linking is central to a vision of a bioregional Earth. If we're going to regenerate the entire planet, we need fractal consciousness.
