This #discord bs many of us myself included seen coming for years now has happened and will be in effect next month
I had some heated conversations with folxs within my circles today but not in a way of attacking them but just trying to beg and pleed many to move to one of the alternatives many folxs have listed here on fedi over the last 24 hours
This is step one of breaking up various LGBTQIA2S+ communities and further isolate and divide folxs online as many here on fedi have already pointed out
While I love many of my smol beans in my close circles some have sadly gone the route of simply shrugging and going with a "oh well nothing u can do attitude" while others are actively taking steps to not only move their communities to safer alternatives but in some cases are building their own solutions with existing open source solutions
Its been a tearful and emotional day with all thats happening ... My partner for example who is indigenous is very upset with people just rolling over and willing to hand discord biodata as her life would be in grave danger if she did such a thing especially with how settler-colonial colonies have treated indigenous folxs to this day
One community I am in the admin is working on deploying her own solution which will act as a bridge to discord and her solution while not a complete independent solution it will at least be a starting point for folxs to move on from discord within that community at least other communities I am in just seem so unsure of what to do
The fascist powers within the United States and elsewhere will use this opportunity to hunt down and either imprison or execute those who they deem "undesirable" and if you think that is hyperbole then you are still asleep and need to wake up
Many lives will be in danger when they hand over that #biodata to discord and I truly fear for my queer fam who are rolling over out of ignorance
On my end and my partners we will give our tearful goodbyes to our current communities that refuse to budge as we go off to our own solutions on more free decentralized solutions
When talking to one groups of friends I described it like this "The pot is now at a full violent boil and many of us are leaping out of the pot and running for our lives begging others to come with us to avoid further harm and taking those with us who are also jumping out of the pot however many are choosing to be boiled alive in this pot because "convenience" which is exactly what fascist powers are banking on"
Myself and others have sort of been outside the pot for a bit trying to get others out before all this but here we are a few have listened many others did not
I am still rather emotional over a lot of this but the silver lining is seeing so many wonderful people here on fedi communicating how bad this is and sharing solutions for folxs to look into and that is a wonderful start an response
So many folxs here on #fediverse are wholesome beans who like me wanna see their queer fam, friends, family and greater communities stay safe and that does give me some hope in an online resistance building to even more intrusive surveillance like age verification
