John Scofield Quartet - Meant to Be
Since I just saw Scofield a few nights ago, I thought it would be appropriate to listen to this recent rerelease of a 1991 session.
This was Bill Stewart's (drums) first appearance with Scofield, and they've been working together ever since.
Joe Lovano (tenor) is there, too, and Marc Johnson (bass).
Great all around.

"One thing the jazz tradition encourages, rare in most other human endeavors, is a routine form of time slippage. A fresh-faced player can reach into the past, accessing truths beyond their grasp; a veteran can return to the fixations of their younger self.β Nate Chinen on John Scofield.

Another entry from my Best Jazz of 2022 list:
"Perpetual Pendulum" by Larry Goldings, Peter Bernstein, and Bill Stewart (Smoke Sessions)
Quiet, confident mastery from three pros at the top of their game. Nothing too flashy for this organ trio playing a mix of standards and originals, but itβs great jazz by any measure.
