Justice Schabas found that Ontario's law, Bill 212, violated section 7 of our charter rights.
The court was impatient with the Ontario government having no evidence to back up its claims.
The bike lanes on Bloor Street, University Avenue, and Yonge Street are now *protected* (get it?) from Doug Ford attempt to remove them.
Injunction has been granted!

In November 2024, Bill 212 - Reducing Gridlock, Saving You Time Act - was passed in Ontario. In essence, this bill prioritizes vehicular traffic and the building of highways over all other considerations. Highway 413 will be fast-tracked, municipalities will need to ask permission to replace vehicular lanes with bike lanes, and three existing bike lanes in Toronto will go back to cars. Will this bill reduce gridlock? What are the costs of implementing this bill? A coalition of cycling advocates has launched a court challenge against Ontario’s new provincial legislation mandating the removal of Toronto’s busiest, protected bike lanes. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday by Cycle Toronto and individual cyclists Eva Stanger-Ross and Narada Kiondo, argues the law violates Charter rights to life and security for cyclists and pedestrians.
