The artistic participative Shelter Construction Site of the "Gestaltung" masters project "Common Shelter" started successfully!
-> Next building days are the 16th and 17th may 2026!

You may join us on a bike, too: "From the art hall to the art construction site" -> Meeting point is friday 15th may 2026 16:00 at the "Thinker" in front of the "Kunsthalle Bielefeld". One way is about 25 km. If you like to build with us, please send a mail to shelter[@]apgw.de or say hello here in the fediverse for details.

If you just like to ride the bike with us, then no announcement neccessary. If you ride with us AND have cargobike or big biketrailer capacity (aleXargo etc), please contact us: A bike company from Bielefeld told me today that we can re-use good, long wooden trash-planks from them!

Also I got another bike trailer yesterday, a used Burley. Here it is, with my old Aosom trailer packed inside it. I'm thinking about ways to convert the Burley to doing more cargo-type things.

Anyone try a Travoy folding bike trailer? Kind of like a tow-behind dolly. 60lbs/27kg capacity. Thinking along the lines of quick trips to the store.

Home safe and everything put away! I did stall out up the worst part of the worst climb and honestly it was scary, but that’s why I had @annathepiper around to help out. There’s another way home I know would work - longer but skips that climb - so it’s not a showstopper. I’d do it that way with this much weight next time.

Earlier in the day, Judy and I collected free potting compost from the local council. It's the result of an industrial composting process fed by what people put in the green bins, as well as cuttings of trees and other plants by council workers. This stuff is somewhat smellier than commercial potting compost so we'll only be using it outdoors.

I bought a bike trailer! now I can hopefully go camping this summer with my ebike  

I think I'm going to add some sealant to the base right away, that way it won't get wet inside if it ends up raining in the summer

@ascentale @xtaran @bikenite The only hitch I’ve used came with my MayaCycle trailer and it replaces the QD skewer with one built to allow the trailer arms to attach at the real axle on both sides. That allows me to have maximum trailer maneuvering. #bikenite #biketrailer

Thanks for mentioning the #BobYak - I was trying to track it down to mention it.

The main advantage of a one-wheeler to me is it's stability. On (rocky) rough terrain that would tend to "throw" one wheel of a 2-wheeler, at more than a snails pace.

The builders' wheelbarrow shape is one that has converged on an optimum, from across many designs, because its weight distribution etc works and it is compact. Garden barrows, well...;-/

Builder's barrow in reverse, for a bike trailer, out of lighter materials, gives compact short wheelbase / lower c-o-g / ground clearance balance. Battery could hang off the back for weight distribution.

The Yak is a bit stretched for city and tight-space use, I think, but the long wheelbase gives it stability. I would keep grounding it here.

Biked with cargo trailer to pick up an old junky free monitor to use as a display for my signal level meter. The trailer worked fine, and it’s the furthest I’ve gone with it so far. So, yay!

(And it’s very old and junky and this rare single-purpose use kept it out of recycling, nobody else wanted it. Everybody wins. ^_^ )
