Have spent a few weeks out of the 'Canberra Bubble' in the so-called 'real Australia'. (Central Coast, NSW).

The experience has been mixed, tbh.

To be fair, most of the time has been spent in caravan parks, and the local businesses that support them - esp pubs and the local RSL for dinner - as I cycle southwards. So an older crowd, peppered with younger folk working the pubs and cafes.

But I am beginning to understand why the major parties are drifting so far to the reactionary Right. [I wont replay the appalling conversations on immigration, esp the connection between crime and 'black' immigrants. FN justice? Let's not go there .... ]

One old bloke was convinced the 'wog' PM Albanese is Jewish ..... explaining why he removed the electricity bill relief. He was not joking.

And the attitude towards privacy is outright ridiculous.

As sure as Dog made little green apples, the same people who whinge about govt over-reach the most, and are borderline SovCit in their views on privacy, need for cash, etc etc, are the ones to react most violently when yours truly takes meaningful measures to protect privacy.

Simply questioning why a salesperson would need my residential address is taken as an attack; "awright, I'll enter 'no fixed address' into the compoota then', through pursed lips. FFS.

And my email address? An especially generated alias for their benefit (ie, containing their business name so I know for whom I generated it) has them looking at me like I'm some kind of commie spy.

I am immediately treated like a 'problem customer', and everything becomes that much more difficult and lonely. And that's before they see the Palestine solidarity sticker on the bike I am riding.

The connection between the bushfires and climate change? LOL. These people are not even close to that place yet.

The scenery is glorious, and some people have been the warm, 'country people' of popular belief. But far too many of them are redneck idiots, and it is distressing to believe there is an electorally significant number of them being courted by the ALP, LNP, PHON and the rest. Yuck.

There is a reason why young people flee rural and regional Australia. And we are foolish to lionise the racist, reactionary morons who drove them away as somehow representing the 'real Australia'.

Looking forward to the relative civilisation and kind, educated people of #Canberra.

My son Sam and I enjoyed an urban bike overnight last spring in Calgary, Alberta, so we’re delighted to share our detailed route information and narrative. Routes feature continuous, separated bicycle infrastructure, allowing for a relaxed bicycling experience from the downtown core to Seton and back. #YYCBike #BikeToot #BikeTourism #FamilyBike

On a #longdistance #biketour like #MuenchenVenezia you want your #bike safely stored during the night. If you prefer some comfort, have a restricted budget and do not plan fixed, conservative legs, last minute booking for the night can be a challenge. Here are my experiences for #Munich - #Venice: https://www.organictraveller.de/ecotraveller-munich-venice-by-bike#muenchenvenezia_bikefriendly_accommodation
