Find a nice spot to sit by the sea and listen to the waves and grab the binoculars when an interesting bird or boat passes by and sip on some wine and read Revolutions (a fascinating history of women and cycling).

@BarbChamberlain
"You & a Bike & a Road" by Eleanor Davis.

Original release by Koyama Press in 2017. It looks like a hardcover re-release this July by Fantagraphics.

Eleanor is an illustrator and comics artist often published in The New Yorker. She decided to bike from her parents' house in Arizona to her home in Georgia, and draw about her travels. Very very good.

An incomplete list, I'm sure, of books by women, for women, on bicycling: http://bikestylespokane.com/2024/03/01/bike-books-i-recommend-women-on-wheels/

Tell me what I missed!

[Edited to add: "For women" not meant to suggest that anyone of any gender wouldn't be interested in the history and thinking in these books. "Women" inclusive of trans women and nonbinary people; any books like that out there?]

An evening with “Biking Uphill in the Rain” author and Publisher of Seattle Bike Blog: Tom Fucoloro – Squeaky Wheels

Honestly not a gift guide, but this list of books I own on bicycle art, cartoons, and miscellany wouldn't be a bad starting point to pick something out for the riders you know.

What's your favorite book to give the rider who has all the how-to books they need?

Think of this list as the liberal arts major roundup on my bookcase. I keep my bike books sorted in categories: travel, history, policy. And then there’s this group of books that got shelved …

@Jennifer_Miller @uxmark I got to hear Peter Walker speak at an event in Seattle for Cascade Bicycle Club a while back (probably pre-COVID). Agreed it's a great read for people who don't know how much of a multi-solving tool bicycling is. Now I have to look for The Miracle Pill. The Walking Life by Antonia Malchik is also great on that topic, or 52 Reasons to Walk by Annabel Abs.

Multisolving: one action, many benefits We help people overcome barriers to multisolving. Multisolving is a growing movement around the world. @MartyCormack @ascentale The Buddha and the Bee sounds fun! I've done some touring and enjoy reading about it to inspire me to do a bit more.
