February And March MixUp

Me too, me too!!

I had no idea the #aurora was out tonight until our village chat group lit up! This is the very first time I've ever seen the Northern Lights – what a dream come true! 🤩🥹 At first, there were just faint green smudges flickering in and out of the night sky, followed by a soft red tint. I ended up standing in the garden for half an hour in my dressing gown, trying to capture it all on camera. Unsurprisingly, my phone did a better job than the camera at bringing out the colours, because I have no idea what I'm doing. 😅

The first image is from my phone, the second is from the camera. In the first, I've silhouetted the houses for privacy. Can you spot the Plough/Big Dipper just above the middle roof? 😊 The second photo is SOOC.

The #BigDipper behind the #aurora
Morning views like this make leaving for work in the dark worth it.

Did anyone else see that really bright "star" just above Dubhe, near Glausar? Got super bright then just faded out, really fast. Was that a satellite or what? (It wasn't Polaris)

Accidentally caught some aurora last night after surfacing to a beautiful starry sky from a night dive 🌌🤩

Mars, rather faint, low in the evening sky of southern New Mexico.

The second graphic is a finder chart from planetarium software.

Because of the bright star mnemonics I learned long ago, I imagine a big arch in this part of the sky.

Starting with the Big Dipper, follow the curve of the handle...it's the "arc to Arcturus". Then keep on spikin' to Spica (which is a bit left and higher than orange-red Mars).
