Even trees struggle under the weight of it all. This weeping birch (*Betula pendula* 'Youngii') in my garden has bent so far under the lush weight of its own summer growth that its long branches now touch the ground — forming a natural archway.

It's not weakness, it's abundance. The tree is simply so full of life that gravity takes over. Weeping birches are naturally pendulous, but in full summer leaf they can hang dramatically low, creating sheltered, shaded micro-habitats underneath — perfect for mosses, insects, and the occasional curious visitor.

Zelfs bomen bezwijken soms onder het gewicht van het leven. Deze treurberken (*Betula pendula* 'Youngii') in mijn tuin hangen zo ver door onder het gewicht van hun weelderige zomerloof dat hun lange takken de grond bijna raken — en zo een natuurlijke boog vormen.

Het is geen zwakheid, het is overvloed. De boom zit zo vol leven dat de zwaartekracht het overneemt. Treurberken hebben van nature hangende takken, maar in volle zomerbladering kunnen ze dramatisch laag doorzakken en een beschut, schaduwrijk microhabitat creëren — ideaal voor mossen, insecten en andere bewoners.

May and June are my favorite months. So many plants, flowers, and birds to photograph – I just wish I had more time! At least light is no longer in short supply, there is already over 16 hours of daylight in Helsinki.

I've been keeping an eye out for photogenic "mouse ears" (that's what we call new birch leaves in Finnish). I found these the other day. I quite like them, and the spider is a nice touch.

A small detail in the woods earlier this month. I noticed a spruce branch touching the trunk of a silver birch by chance one day while I was walking home. I snapped a photo and then forgot it until today. It's simple, but I quite like it actually.

This is the national tree of Finland, a silver birch, photographed a few hours ago. They are starting to bloom – earlier than usual, I think. Fortunately I'm not allergic to their pollen. We call the fresh young leaves "hiirenkorvat", loosely translated as "mouse ears". They are another wonderful sign of the advancing spring here. "Mouse-eared" birches look so pretty. Oh, and the smell of birch leaves and its cultural significance to us Finns.
