This is DunsPlayFest's youngest trustee, Jamie who has been part of community theatre since he was eight. He’s a regular onstage with Duns Players and at Berwickshire High School where he is currently doing Highers. He recently won the NODA North Councillor’s Rising Star Award.

He is also a writer/director whose play opened last year's DunsPlayFest, its sequel is booked for next year's festival.

A couple of years ago, at one of these concerts, my daughter played a Grade 5 clarinet solo, accompanied by the Jed Forest Brass Band in an arrangement specially written for her by Cameron Mabon (head of the Berwickshire High School music department). It was effectively a Clarinet Concerto in miniature and one of my daughter's most memorable and rewarding experiences at school.

Our high school in Duns has an excellent music department. One of the things they do is to host a different top-rated brass band every year for a concert, giving youngsters (from S1-S6) the chance of playing alongside some of the pieces and giving senior students the experience of performing their exam pieces in public as solos. The concerts are always excellent.

Berwickshire High School has a remarkable music department. Last term was a brilliant production of Chicago, followed 2 weeks later with a Christmas concert. This Burns concert is a new venture and will feature a wide range of soloists and ensembles from across the school. They always present a good show with impressive young talent to the extent that locals with no connection with the school are also regularly in the audience.

There is lots of good evidence that music in schools helps improve attainment across the board. As a parent of kids going through the high school over the last 11 years, I have seen this happening with the Berwickshire. The development of the music department has gone hand in hand with rising standards across the school generally. I'm so glad that we moved to Scotland from Yorkshire 11 years ago. Our kids are getting a much better education.

The Berwickshire High School really has an excellent music department. The current production is the seniors' show S4-6, most of the leads actually being S5 students who have just finished their prelims (mock exams). Before Christmas the lower school (S1-3) staged Frozen which was also very good. The last full school show (last June) saw 70 kids on stage, over 10% of the school population, with many more running backstage and tech.

Just got home from seeing the Berwickshire High School's production of the Musical 9-5. Absolutely brilliant ensemble cast. The confidence and talent of these youngsters is wonderful to see. Just two nights left to catch it. Last night is Saturday.

Last night of this excellent four night run is tonight, Saturday. Understand that there are still tickets available but suggest that you arrive by 7pm to get a seat.

Berwickshire High School has a brilliant music department. Well worth coming to see. I saw it on Thursday and going again tonight with friends.

Berwickshire High School has a brilliant music department. My son in S2 is rehearsing as Prince Hans in Frozen due to stage next month, whilst my daughter in S6 is rehearsing for 9-5 The Musical for February. Link below is to a new single featuring Amy Clark, a former student who I saw in several utterly brilliant musicals at the school.

If you are anywhere near Duns in the Scottish Borders this evening, don't miss this concert.

Berwickshire High School has a brilliant music department which also has strong connections with music groups in the community. Sunday 1st October is their first concert of the year. Certainly won't be what you expect as a school concert.
