If you haven't watched #BerlinStation, #SlowHorses, #TokyoVice, or #Silo you need to plan some viewing over the holidays. *yes, I know they're not all current but worth the watch just the same. #tv

#BerlinStation felt like an interestingly weird hybrid of US & European spy TV. If I'm honest, it might have been quite average, were it not for a cast that included Michelle Forbes, Ashley Judd, Keke Palmer, Richard Armitage, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Richard Jenkins, Rhys Ifans, Leland Orser & James Cromwell, each of whom totally brought it, with the added bonus of some serious 🔥 in there too. Even though I'd have loved more, it's maybe gone at about the right time, but I'll still really miss it.

#BerlinStation is a terrific TV show that feels like a fever dream, because I saw so little fuss around it (this show happened right? I didn't just imagine it?). Michelle Forbes, Keke Palmer, Richard Jenkins, Leland Orser, Richard Armitage, just to mention a few. Ace high quality storytelling to boot, that manages to dodge some of the more obvious spy thriller tropes. I am Well excited that S3 has finally landed in the UK, even if it's on one of the less prominent channels.

Ich fand "West of Liberty" vor allem deshalb interessant, weil die #Serie vom ZDF von vorneherein für den internationalen Mark konzipiert war. Ein #NordicNoir Polit-Krimi-Bestseller von #ThomasEngström aus #Schweden (sehr frei dem Fall #Wikileaks und  #JulienAssange nachempfunden) lag dem Drehbuch zugrunde, eine internationale Besetzung - mit dem deutschen #Tatort Kommissar #WotanWilkeMöhring und dem Schauspielgiganten #LarsEidinger ganz oben auf der Liste. Gedreht mehrsprachig in Englisch/Deutsch/Schwedisch. Das gibt es auch nicht jeden Tag im #ÖRR #TV.

Allein... gesehen haben wir das alles schon irgendwo. Mir kam da zum Beispiel #BerlinStation in den Sinn, die Serie welche drei Jahre vorher, in Staffel 1, schon ein Whistleblower Motiv vor dem Hintergrund der #CIA Station am Brandenburger Tor zum Thema hatte. Und... ja, die Amerikaner*innen haben das irgendwie spannender, komplexer und schneller erzählt. Aber keine Kunst... bei einem vielfachen Budget.

Nichts desto trotz mag ich den #ZDF Sechsteiler empfehlen. Weil er in der Menge des #Mediathek -Angebots herausragt und es deshalb einfach verdient hat, gesehen zu werden. - Dabei unbedingt die Originalversion auswählen!
