The #FirstItaloEthiopianWar ended in humiliating defeat for #Italy on #ThisDayInHistory in 1896 when 70% of its force was killed or captured in the #BattleOfAdwa. Other colonial powers permitted Italy to expand there in the #BerlinConference but #Ethiopia stayed free until 1935.

On #ThisDayInHistory in 1884, the #BerlinConference on #Africa opened. 14 countries were represented, including United States (though Belgium through a corporation). They divided the continent and its peoples for imperialist subjugation. Countless millions were killed for profit.
