Every time I think about #gaza I can't help but think about the 1948-49 #BerlinAirlift and how much 7 Western countries did to keep West #Berlin from starving, including airdropping candy for kids. And how those same countries (#NZ included) are shrugging their shoulders as they watch Gaza now.

Sollte sich jemand wundern, weshalb heute über #frankfurt #hanau und #rheinmain fünf alte #Flugzeuge ( #dc3 )in Formation gefolgt von einem weiteren Flieger ( #c130 ) flogen: das war zur Erinnerung, dass vor 75 Jahren die #Luftbrücke für Berlin endete ( #berlinairlift ).

The situation was...special. Partly because of the political situation (because of the Cold War and the western allies' efforts to protect #Berlin with the #BerlinAirlift, the population stopped to see them 'only' as occupiers), but partly because of...US culture. For example, #Elvis was stationed in Germany for a while. Most US army bases are not equipped to deal with large groups of fans. The media was interested as well. So yes, things got interesting.
